Disaster Response and Reconstruction

What is Disaster response

Disaster response is the second phase of the disaster management cycle. It consists of a number of elements, for example; warning/evacuation, search and rescue, providing immediate assistance, assessing damage, continuing assistance and the immediate restoration or construction of infrastructure (i.e. provisional storm drains or diversion dams). The aim of emergency response is to provide immediate assistance to maintain life, improve health and support the morale of the affected population. Such assistance may range from providing specific but limited aid, such as assisting refugees with transport, temporary shelter, and food, to establishing a semi-permanent settlement in camps and other locations. It also may involve initial repairs to damaged or diversion to infrastructure.

The focus in the response phase is on putting people safe, prevent need disasters and meeting the basic needs of the people until more permanent and sustainable solutions can be found. The main responsibility to address these needs and respond to a disaster lies with the government or governments in whose territory the disaster has occurred.

IBX services. What You May Not Realize About Bathroom Remodeling and Water Damage.

When we make the decision to remodel our homes, it’s because we want positive change. For some, this is easily accomplished, but for others, changing up the old can reveal a dark, nasty mess underneath. In the case of bathroom remodels this is especially true. Homeowners who contract a remodeling project can find mold and water damage underneath layers of tile, in the plumbing, and even in the walls! This is no reason to delay your remodeling dreams! In fact, IBX Services loves handling projects like this because we are highly experienced in restoration services. We truly remodel the foundation and the surface of homes, especially the bathroom. A modern bathroom is not possible without comprehensive construction. We will clean up existing water and mold damage and we don’t stop there; we also take the necessary steps to prevent future water and mold from wrecking your home.

Prevent Future Water, Mold, and Moisture From Damaging Your Home:

Showers and bathtubs: It is important that all tiles are formed together tightly. If there’s a crack or any unevenness, moisture is invited in to reside. While tiny cracks may not seem like much now, it stands the chance of harboring black mold. This goes for the caulking around the tub and shower areas. Sealing all these areas is specifically important.

Air flow: Proper ventilation is required to prevent excess moisture from building up. Allow proper air flow in your bathroom, by using your home air conditioner or a dehumidifier to offset the dampness. An exhaust fan is a must and making sure it’s appropriate for your area can help curb moisture in the air from steamy showers or baths.

Plumbing: Sealing your toilet, sinks, and faucets prevent water from constantly leaking out, which can lead to structural damage. This is crucial, but also, surveillance is required. We make sure you know where your pipes are located in the walls, in cabinets, and elsewhere so you can check for soft spots appearing on your paint or wallpaper, or on your vanity cabinets.

Let IBX Services Guide You Towards a Modern, Clean Bathroom

Water Damage Signs and Dangers in Toronto

Water Damage Signs and Dangers.

Water damage restoration can turn into an expensive headache if you are not vigilant about the signs of water damage in your home. Not only is water damaging to the structure of your home, but it becomes a ripe environment for mould to grow and can lead to possible health issues. Here are signs of water damage to help you identify if you should call your water restoration company

Stains on walls and ceilings

This often appears as discoloration of paint or obvious stains on walls and ceilings. Painting over these stains is not a fix and the issue will often resurface through the new paint or over a larger area of the affected wall or ceiling

Flaking or peeling paint

Similar to stains, peeling or flaking paint is a major tell of water damage. When drywall is exposed to too much moisture, the moisture will try to escape through the wall or ceiling causing paint to lift off its surface.  This is due to the walls tendency to absorb the moisture like a sponge.  As a result, the damage can spread quite easily.

Soft or swollen drywall

Water damage, when left unaddressed, causes walls and ceilings to appear swollen and often times causes ceilings to sag. This can potentially be dangerous to anything fragile in your home, or even your family.

Mould

Mould thrives in dark damp places, therefore, spotting it in your home may be more difficult. Typically mould can be seen behind furniture and in crevices that aren’t often obvious in our homes.
If you spot any evidence of water damage, be proactive in containing the issue. Start by checking surrounding rooms or ceilings of rooms below the affected area for signs of water damage. Once you have evaluated the extent of damage, check roof or plumbing for leaks to prevent any future water damage. If you aren’t sure, your restoration expert can help identify problem areas in your home. Don’t hesitate to call Ibx Services with any concerns you may have regarding water damage in your home! We are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
